Indian Naval Ship Kamorta, an indigenously designed and built Anti-submarine warfare (ASW) corvette of the Indian Navy, arrived in Trincomalee on June 20, 2024. On arrival, the Commanding Officer of the Indian Naval Ship, Commander Prashant Kumar Mishra made a courtesy call on Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral BAKSP Banagoda.
Marking the 10th International Day of Yoga, High Commission of India and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), the cultural arm of the High Commission, organised a yoga event at the Trincomalee port, onboard and alongside the visiting INS Kamorta on June 21, 2024. The event saw participation of senior defence and civilian hierarchy as well as personnel from Sri Lanka Armed Forces. The Governor of Eastern province, Hon. Senthil Thondaman also participated in the event.
The ship was open for visits by school children and later for the public at Trincomalee port, in coordination with High Commission of India and the Sri Lanka Navy. Further, the ship will undertake various professional interactions with the Sri Lanka Navy during its stay in Sri Lanka. On ship’s departure on 23 Jun 24, Maritime Partnership Exercise with Sri Lanka Navy Ship is planned off Trincomalee. As an outreach initiative, the ship will carry out activities like beach cleaning in Trincomalee, and a reception onboard for senior officials from Military and Civil administration.
It may be recalled that Indian Naval Submarine Vagir had visited Colombo last year for celebrating the International Day of Yoga (IDY-2023). Visits by Indian Navy ships and submarines in Sri Lanka aim to foster brotherhood and togetherness between the two the Navies of the two neighbours in line with the India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and vision of Security and Growth for all in the Region (SAGAR).
