Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene says that appeals can be forwarded related to the “Aswasuma” Welfare Benefits Programme untill July 10.

Those whose names were not included in the benefits list can visit the website www.wbb.gov.lk and submit their objections by filling the form mentioned there.

The Acting Finance Minister said this while explaining the future process of the new programme implemented by the Welfare Benefits Board so that the beneficiaries will receive benefits directly into their bank accounts from next month.

A member of the Social Welfare Benefit Board A.R.Deshapriya, said that those whose names were not included in the benefits list can visit the website www.wbb.gov.lk and submit their objections by filling the form mentioned there.

As per the new identification scheme, four groups namely transitional, vulnerable, poor and extreme poor are to receive relief payments. In terms of families, 400,000 transitional families, 400,000 families at risk, 800,000 poor families and 400,000 extremely poor families will receive benefits under this. Over 300,000 beneficiaries of kidney, disabled and elderly beneficiaries will benefit from this.

“Anyone whose name is not mentioned in the list that we presented today or who is protesting should do it before June 30. The Divisional Secretary should be informed about it. Those appeals and objections will be investigated within a month. There will be no problem while the programme is in operation. These allowances are given to families or individuals who have not turned up,” minister added.

State Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe advised all applicants whose names were NOT included in the list of ‘Aswesuma’ beneficiaries to file appeals before July 10; following the close of the appeal process, a final list of deserving applicants will be compiled.

Government is expect to prepare the final list of social welfare benefits candidates after the appeal period ends. The list of names that has been made public is by no means the final list.
