Two suspects held with explosives in Mannar

A combined search operation conducted by the Navy with the Police led to the arrest of 02 suspects along with 10 water gel sticks – a type of explosive, 10 non-electric detonators and 02 feet of safety fuse in Mannar and Shanthipuram on 24 Jan 25. The search also resulted in the seizure of a motorbike used for transporting water gel sticks. 

SLNS Gajaba belonging to the North Central Naval Command conducted a search operation with the Police Crime Detective Bureau in Mannar, near the Sri Lanka Transport Board depot in Mannar where a suspect was arrested for transporting 10 water gel sticks on a motorbike for sale. Subsequently, the search party inspected a house in Shanthipuram and another suspect was arrested for hiding 10 non-electric detonators and two feet of safety fuses in the house.

The suspects held in this operation were identified as residents of Talvupadu and Shanthipuram in Mannar, aged 28 and 36. The suspects together with seized explosives and the motorbike were handed over to the Mannar Police for legal action
