Three arrested with firearms in separate police raids

Police reported that three individuals in possession of a T-56 assault rifle and two locally made firearms were arrested yesterday (26) along with the weapons.

The T-56 firearm was discovered last night on the upper floor of a shop in the Delgahamedilla area within the Nungamuwa Police Division.

Police stated it was a T-56 firearm with the serial number erased. The suspect arrested in connection with this is a 51-year-old retired army soldier residing in the Kumbaloluwa area.

Meanwhile, during a raid carried out by the police in the Ariston Road area, Ambana in Naula last afternoon (26), a suspect was arrested with a locally made firearm. The arrested individual is a 55-year-old resident of the Kongahawela area.

Additionally, another suspect was arrested with a locally-made firearm at Therathupitiya, Ethimale. This man was apprehended in a raid conducted by the police last afternoon, and he is a 39-year-old resident of the Ethimale Lake area.
