The Supreme Court has ruled that awarding free marks for the three leaked questions in the first paper of the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination, held on September 15, violates fundamental human rights.
The controversy arose after it was discovered that three questions from the examination had been leaked prior to the test, sparking widespread criticism and concerns about the integrity of the process. Following the incident, the Supreme Court intervened on November 18, issuing an interim order that prevented authorities from releasing the marks until a fair resolution was reached.
In its recent ruling, the court emphasized that awarding marks indiscriminately for the leaked questions undermines fairness and equity, which are fundamental to the examination system. The Commissioner General of Examinations has been directed to proceed with one of the most suitable recommendations provided by the expert committee established to address the matter.
