On the apparent northward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 05th to 15th of April in this year. The nearest areas of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (11th) are Baththalangunduwa, Medawachchiya, Horowpotana and Trincomalee at about 12:11 noon.
The sun will be directly overhead in the aforementioned areas, leading to temperatures exceeding 32°C in most places. Health officials urge the public to stay hydrated to avoid dehydration, a common risk during such extreme heat.
Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is expected to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Northern, Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and Anuradhapura, Galle, and Matara districts.
Given the potential risks associated with dehydration during such extreme weather, authorities strongly recommend staying hydrated. Health experts recommend carrying water bottles and drinking water regularly, even if one does not feel thirsty. Adults are encouraged to aim for a minimum of 2 liters of water daily to ensure their well-being during this heatwave.
