The Department of Meteorology announced that the sun will directly overhead several parts of the island.
The sun is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28th of August to 06th of September due to its apparent southward relative motion. The nearest places of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (28) at about 12.11 noon are Delf Island, Pooneryn, Thadduvankoddi and Chundikkulam.
The sun will be directly overhead in the aforementioned areas, leading to temperatures exceeding 32°C in most places. Health officials urge the public to stay hydrated to avoid dehydration, a common risk during such extreme heat.
Job Sites: Workers are advised to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in shaded areas.
Indoors: Citizens are encouraged to check on the elderly and sick, ensuring they remain cool and hydrated.
Vehicles: Parents are reminded never to leave children unattended in vehicles, especially during periods of high heat.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, seek shade when possible, and maintain hydration.
Dress Code: Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing to reflect sunlight and stay cool.
