As the sun reaches its zenith over Sri Lanka, temperatures are set to rise significantly. The Department of Meteorology’s Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued a Heat Index Advisory, warning residents to take precautions against the scorching temperatures. The sun will be directly overhead in the aforementioned areas around 12:12 noon, leading to temperatures exceeding 32°C in most places. Health officials urge the public to stay hydrated to avoid dehydration, a common risk during such extreme heat.
The Heat Index, which measures the temperature felt by the human body, is expected to reach ‘Caution level’ in various provinces and districts including Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, Southern, and Monaragala.
