Gros Islet, June 16, 2024 – In a match at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka triumphed over the Netherlands by 83 runs but failed to secure a place in the Super 8 stage. Bangladesh and South Africa has already advanced to the next round.
Sri Lanka, bat first, posted an imposing total of 201/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Their innings was highlighted by a blistering knock from the batsmen Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka each 46 runs, with notable contributions from Dhananjaya De Silva and Angelo Mathews.
In response, the Netherlands struggled to find their footing against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack. The Netherlands was bowled out for 118 runs, failing to mount a significant challenge.
Despite the comprehensive win, Sri Lanka’s earlier performances in the group stage left them with insufficient points to progress. The decisive factor was their previous losses, which allowed Bangladesh and South Africa to secure the top two spots in Group D.
