Sri Lanka to begin vaccinating school principals, teachers and non-academic staff ahead opening schools. Government has taken decision to prioritize school teachers for vaccination against COVID 19. Director General of Health Services issued a special circular and informed the decision to Provincial Directors of Health Services and Regional Directors of Health Services. Accordingly, all school teachers in each district should be vaccinated in the week, starting from 12.07.2021, irrespective of their age.
Sri Lanka is considering to reopen schools below 100 students capacity on July month. Government has taken steps to vaccinate teachers and other staff prior to reopening schools. There are nearly 3000 schools in Sri Lanka which have less than 100 students. Minister of Education says that the government’s plan is to re-open remaining schools under several phases.
Full Circular – Provision of COVID 19 vaccination to school teachers as a priority group.
A decision has been taken to prioritize school teachers for vaccination against COVID 19 at a meeting held with His Excellency the President. Accordingly, all school teachers in each district should be vaccinated in the week, starting from 12.07.2021, irrespective of their age. Please follow the guidance mentioned below to implement the vaccination of school teachers in your respective districts.
- Inform all Medical Officers of Health to assign one healthcare institution in each MOH area to predominantly vaccinate school teachers in the area. The vaccines for this purpose should be made available from the current stock of Sinopharm vaccines in the RMSD allocated for the first dose.
- All necessary logistics for the vaccination program should be made available to the healthcare institutions conducting the vaccination programs. You are requested to ensure the implementation of the vaccination of school teachers adhering to the guidance given above.
