Update – Prevailing rainy / showery condition in the South-western parts of the country (particularly in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts) is expected to continue further. heavy falls above 100 mm will occur at some places today (2021.06.05). Several persons reportedly missing after a landslides several locations. Massive rainfall of 327mm reported in Ingiriya area June 4. Max. Rainfall of 197.5mm reported in Algama (Kegalle) on June 5. NBRO issued landslides alert for – Colombo Seethawaka and Padukka – Galle Elpitiya, Neluwa – Gampaha Divulapitiya Mirigama, Gampaha and Attanagalla – Kalutara Horana and Walallawita , Agalawatta, Mathugama, Palindanuwara, Ingiriya and Bulathsinhala – Kandy Udunuwara, Thumpane and Yatinuwara Pasbage Korale – Kegalle Yatiyanthota, Dehiowita, Bulathkohupitiya, Deraniyagala, Kegalle, Warakapola, Galigamuwa, Ruwanwella, Aranayaka, Mawanella and Rambukkana – Matale Pallepola, Abanganga Korale and
Yatawatta – Matara Kotapola and Pitabeddara – Nuwara Eliya Kotmale Ambagamuwa – Ratnapura Kuruwita and Imbulpe Elapatha, Ratnapura and Nivithigala Eheliyagoda, Ayagama, Kiriella and Kalawana.

Therefore, considerable flood situation (Minor Flood) in low line areas of Aththanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya through Attanagalla, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, and Ja-ela D/S Divisions might be occurred It is requested to pay high attention.

NBRO issued landslides alert for several districts including Colombo – Seethawaka, Galle – Neluwa, Kalutara – Palindanuwara, Bulathsinhala and Ingiriya, Kegalle – Dehiowita, Matara – Pitabeddara, Nuwara Eliya – Walapane, Ratnapura – Elapatha, Ratnapura, Kiriella, Kuruwita, Eheliyagoda, Kalawana and Ayagama Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.

A high rainfall exceeding around 175 mm has been occurred in most of Middle Reach / Downstream catchment areas of Kalu River basin. By analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water level of Hydrological stations in Kalu River, it is warned that there is a high possibility of further increasing current minor flood situation in low line areas of Kalu River Valley situated in Horana, Agalawatta, Ingiriya, Painda Nuwara, Bulathsinhala, Dodangoda, Millaniya, Madurawala and Kalutara D/S Divisions. The residents of the area and drivers of the vehicles running through those areas are requested to pay high attention in this regards in order to save valuable lives and public and private properties. The Disaster Management Authorities and District/ Divisional Administrations are
requested to take necessary precautions in this regards.

MET predicts heavy falls above 100 mm on June 5 at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Galle, Matara and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

MET issued Advisory for heavy rain. Alert issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre. Issued at 01.00 a.m. 03 June 2021, valid until 08.30 a.m. 04 June 2021.

According to Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka, for now South-west monsoon condition has established over Sri Lanka. The Southwest Monsoon (Niritha Diga Mosam) arrived over Sri Lanka in May 25 / 26.

Due to South-west monsoon, Sri Lanka to receive very heavy rains over 150mm and strong winds 60-70 kmph. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Due to heavy rains, flood situation are expected.
