Monsoon Intensifies: Heavy Showers Expected Across Sri Lanka

The active Northeast Monsoon is bringing widespread rainfall across Sri Lanka, with the prevailing showery conditions expected to continue over the next 24 hours.

The Meteorology Department has warned of heavy rainfall exceeding 150mm in parts of the Eastern, Uva, Northern, and North-Central provinces, as well as the Hambantota district. Meanwhile, fairly heavy showers of up to 75mm are likely in other areas.

Residents are advised to take precautions against potential damages caused by temporary strong winds, lightning, and localized flooding. Winds between 30-40 km/h may occur in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in Matara and Hambantota districts.

Stay updated and prioritize safety during this period of intense monsoon activity.
