June 3, 2024 (LankaXpress.com) – Severe flooding and extreme weather conditions in Sri Lanka have resulted in 10 deaths, with 6 people reported missing and approximately 20 injured. The floods have caused extensive damage, displacing over 2,500 people and affecting more than 11,000 residents. Several houses have been fully or partially destroyed.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe has directed officials to work with the tri-forces and police to reconstruct completely destroyed homes using government funds within the next two months.

The Attanagalu Oya, Nilwala River, and Kalu Ganga have reached major flood levels, while water levels in the Kelani Ganga and Gin Ganga are rising but remain at minor flood levels. Authorities have advised residents in riverbanks and low-lying areas to remain vigilant.
