Sri Lanka begins vaccinating school principals, teachers and non-academic staff from July 12 ahead opening schools. The State Minister of Transport Services Dilum Amunugama says vaccination of teachers against COVID-19 commence July 12 in the Kandy District.
Sri Lanka is considering to reopen schools below 100 students capacity on July month end or August month. Government has taken steps to vaccinate teachers and other staff prior to reopening schools. There are nearly 3000 schools in Sri Lanka which have less than 100 students. Minister of Education says that the government’s plan is to re-open remaining schools under several phases.
Government has taken decision to prioritize school teachers for vaccination against COVID 19. Director General of Health Services issued a special circular and informed the decision to Provincial Directors of Health Services and Regional Directors of Health Services. Accordingly, all school teachers in each district should be vaccinated in the week, starting from July 12 irrespective of their age.
The vaccination of the officers of the Department of Examinations and the Ministry of Education commenced July 09 as the first step in the program to restart the education structure of the country and the resumption of school education.
