In a significant crackdown on illegal cannabis cultivation, the Sri Lanka Army Intelligence Unit, in collaboration with the Thanamalwila Police and local Army personnel, carried out a major raid in the Unakanda, Hamibegamuwa area. Acting on intelligence inputs, the operation successfully destroyed extensive cannabis (Ganja) plantations across three locations.
The joint effort led to the destruction of:
- 1.5 acres of cannabis cultivation, containing approximately 58,320 plants.
- 0.5 acres of cannabis, with around 3,722 plants.
- 0.25 acres of cannabis, housing approximately 1,950 plants.
All the illegal cultivations were burned on-site to prevent further processing or distribution. The raid highlights the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and military intelligence in combating drug-related crimes. (LankaXpress)
