According to social media posts and Chat Groups, thousands of citizens are planning to launch protests island wide on April 3 Sunday. Sri Lankans are facing severe shortages of essentials, sharp price rises and crippling power cuts.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s president declared a state of emergency giving sweeping powers to security forces a day before the possible series of protests island wide.
United National Party UNP says they will NOT join any protests organized by anonymous groups on April 3.
“The United National Party will not be joining any protests organised by anonymous groups. We are committed to continuing our Satyagraha campaign around the country. The next Satyagraha will be held on the 6th of April in Matara. We invite all to join us”.
