Special Traffic Plans for Iranian President’s Visit to Sri Lanka
In anticipation of the arrival of Iranian President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi, the Sri Lanka Police have announced special traffic arrangements in Colombo and Mattala. These measures aim to ensure smooth transportation and security during the high-profile visit.
The Katunayake-Colombo Expressway is scheduled to be closed in two intervals: from 2 pm to 3 pm and from 9:30 pm to 10:30 pm on April 24th. Authorities urge commuters and residents to plan their travel accordingly, as these traffic adjustments will affect regular routes and timings.
Additionally, multiple roads in Mattala, Thanamalvila, Wellawaya, and Uma Oya will experience closures from 9:45 am to 11 am on the same day.
In Colombo, several key roads will be off-limits for vehicular movement, including portions of Galle Road from the President’s Office (closed from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.), as well as the Lotus Roundabout and the NSA Roundabout.
The primary reason behind these traffic diversions is the joint declaration ceremony of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project (UOMDP), where President Ranil Wickremesinghe and his Iranian counterpart are expected to officiate. This strategic initiative underscores the strengthening of bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and Iran.
Authorities urge commuters and residents to plan their travel accordingly, as these traffic adjustments will affect regular routes and timings. The implementation of these special arrangements reflects the commitment to ensuring the safety and convenience of all citizens during significant diplomatic events. (LankaXpress.com)
