Following the directives of the Ministry of Defence, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne has suspended the service of the naval surgeon who was arrested recently over an allegation of sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old girl.
The Sri Lanka Navy suspended the service of the accused naval surgeon with immediate effect on the directions of the Ministry of Defence in a bid to pave the way for investigations and judicial proceedings connected to the incident.
Further, on the directives of the Commander of the Navy, a separate internal investigation into the incident is also conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy consequent to the instructions of the Ministry of Defence. He is also not permitted to enter any of the SLN establishments until further notice.
Few days ago, Police arrested the suspect in Bandaragama area over the incident of sexual exploitation of a 15 year old girl from Mount Lavinia area over the internet and social media.
