The plan of reopening schools in September month will not be implemented due to prevailing COVID19 situation in the country. Sri Lanka Education Minister Prof. G.L Peiris says schools will not reopen in the first week of September as planned earlier.
Earlier government was considering to reopen schools below 100 students capacity on July or August month. There are nearly 3000 schools in Sri Lanka which have less than 100 students.
Government has taken steps to vaccinate majority of school teachers and other staff. Sri Lanka began vaccinating school teachers and non-academic staff and so far vaccinated over 200,000 teachers.
Sri Lankan government is considering to vaccinate school students with Pfizer COVID Vaccine aged 12 – 18 says State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana. Recently, an educational expert committee has given green light to vaccinate students between age 12-18 with Pfizer and Moderna jabs.
