Schools Re Opening in Sri Lanka

All schools in the Western Province have been given approval to resume for all grades from March 29, Monday. Earlier it was planned to open several grades after the April holidays on April 19. But the new date will be March 29. Further, pre-schools in the Western Province will also re-open on the 29th of March 2021.

Academic activities all schools in the Western Province will commence from Monday, 29th March 2021, said Education Minister Professor G. L. Peiris. The Minister says the health situation has enabled the reopening of schools, and therefore, Private and International Schools can open from March 29th.

Grade 5, Grade 11 and A/L classes in Western Province started from March 15. The Ministry of Health has granted the approval to the Ministry of Education. Most grades in schools in the Western Province were closed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Minister Pieris said that the decision on reopening schools in the western Province will be determined based on the approval of the Director General of Health Services.

Accordingly, students from all grades will return to school from Monday (29), said the Minister adding the Director-General of Health Services granted permission for the re-opening of schools in the Western Province.

Further, pre-schools in the Western Province will also re-open on the 29th of March 2021.
