President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced that seven plantation companies have agreed to pay the minimum wage of Rs. 1,700 per day for plantation workers.
Furthermore, Wickremesinghe expressed that as the Labour Minister, he will convene the Wage Board on Monday (12) to discuss the matter and that if necessary, special laws will be introduced to enforce the decision, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.
The Head of the State made these remarks while addressing the Kandy District Plantation Labour Unions and Youth Leaders’ meeting today (10).
