Department of Meteorology in Sri Lanka says that the showery condition over the south-western part of the island is likely to enhance during next few days.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy rains above 50 mm can be expected at some places in these areas.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Northern, Eastern and Uva provinces in the evening or night.
Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Northern, NorthCentral, North-Western, Eastern and Uva provinces. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
ACTION REQUIRED:
The Department of Meteorology advises that people should:
Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
Avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies during thunderstorms.
Avoid using wired telephones and connected electric appliances during thunderstorms.
Avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boats etc.
Beware of fallen trees and power lines.
