The vicinity of the Election Commission Office in Rajagiriya will be designated as a special security zone on August 15 as the nominations for the upcoming Presidential Election will be accepted on that date. 

The Chairman of the Election Commission, R.M.A.L. Rathnayake has therefore requested the public to avoid the area if possible for any official or personal purposes during this time period.

The nominations will be accepted from 9.00 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, with the filing of objections permitted between 9.00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. the same day. The allocation of election symbols for candidates from other parties will be scheduled following the objection period.

The special security zone will encompass Sarana Mawatha in Rajagiriya, with only authorized personnel and vehicles allowed access.

The public is advised to avoid the area as all general activities will be suspended for the day and all the government offices and hospitals in the area will remain closed during the aforementioned, said the Chairman of the Election Commission. 

He also emphasized that any parades or processions are prohibited after the handing over of nominations and that they are hoping to commence printing the ballots as soon as the nominations are accepted.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner General of the Election Commission further expressed that 320 complaints related to the Presidential Election have been received so far
