President Dissanayake Meets Japanese Ambassador to Strengthen Bilateral Ties
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with the Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Akio Isomata, at the President’s Office on February 27 to discuss key areas of cooperation, including digital transformation and port development.
During the meeting, Ambassador Isomata extended an official invitation for President Dissanayake to visit Japan and expressed support for the new government’s policy direction. He also highlighted Japan’s efforts to include Sri Lanka in its recently launched security cooperation assistance program.
Discussions covered the progress of the Japan-Switzerland-South Africa initiative, which aims to promote national reconciliation in Sri Lanka’s northern regions affected by the decades-long conflict. The two sides also reviewed ongoing Japanese investments in Sri Lanka and explored future opportunities for collaboration.
Ambassador Isomata reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s Digital Transformation Program. He emphasized Japan’s interest in investing in port and aviation-related projects, as well as broader digitalization efforts in the country.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Duminda Hulangamuwa, Advisor to the President on Economic and Financial Affairs; Roshan Gamage, Senior Additional Secretary to the President; Ohashi Kenji, First Secretary and Head of Economics and Development Cooperation Section; and Murata Shinichi, First Secretary and Head of the Political Section.
