Colombo, Sri Lanka (LankaXpress) — The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), commonly known as “Pohottuwa,” will determine its stance on the 2024 Presidential candidacy in a critical meeting on Monday, 29 July. SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam announced that the party’s politburo will convene to decide whether to support the incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe or to field their own candidate for the upcoming election scheduled for September 21.
Prominent businessman Dhammika Perera has expressed his willingness to contest if nominated by the SLPP.
In contrast, Ronald Perera PC has already placed a cash deposit on behalf of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, indicating his candidacy as an independent for the forthcoming election.
