A group of 116 former Provincial Council members from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the United National Party (UNP) have pledged their commitment to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s victory in the upcoming presidential election, the PMD reported.
Addressing the meeting with the former Provincial Council members, President Wickremesinghe declared his candidacy as an independent candidate in this year’s presidential election pledging his commitment to advancing the country with a bold new vision and an impartial programme.
The President said he is aiming to drive development through nine Provincial Governments and the Central Government.
Meanwhile, during the meeting with former PC members, the President also expressed his strong condemnation of the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and stated unequivocally that he will never condone such actions.
