The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police has arrested a 30-year-old suspect employed as a chef in a hotel situated in Sigiriya. The individual, originally from Kandy, was taken into custody following a complaint lodged with the authorities.
According to reports, the complaint alleged that the suspect had been using a fake Facebook account to lure unsuspecting females by advertising opportunities in acting and modeling. Under the guise of offering legitimate opportunities, the suspect reportedly engaged with several females who responded to the advertisement.
It is claimed that the suspect solicited revealing photographs, including partial nudes, from the females who contacted him through the fake Facebook profile. Subsequently, he allegedly coerced the victims into undergoing online medical tests, during which he recorded them and obtained further nude images.
The investigation has further revealed disturbing allegations that the suspect sexually abused several of the females who fell victim to his deceitful scheme. At present, the police CID is diligently pursuing inquiries to ascertain if any instances of rape have occurred in connection with these events.
In light of these alarming developments, Police have issued a public advisory urging individuals to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to similar online scams. It serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in cyberspace and underscores the importance of exercising caution when engaging with unknown individuals or offers on social media platforms.
