One unit of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant, which generates 270MW broke down early this morning. From the three power generation units at the plant, only one is currently in operation as a result of another unit (270MW) being shutdown in June to carry out maintenance work according to CEB sources.
This morning , Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekara says on Parliament that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will ensure an uninterrupted supply of power islandwide and has no plans for scheduled power cuts, adding that the CEB will procure the necessary supplementary power needed to maintain 24-hour uninterrupted supply of power.
