No threat to national security by privatizing the SLT – Professor Rohan Samarajiva

Former Director General of Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Professor Rohan Samarajiva said that there is no threat to national security by privatization of Sri Lanka Telecom SLT.

Mr. Samarajiwa stated that the report made public by the Sectoral Oversight Committee on National Security is based on speculations. Professor Rohan Samarajiva, former Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, mentioned this while joining the ‘101 Talks’ program produced by the Presidential Media Division.

He also pointed out that such a report has been prepared without conducting an investigation by any expert, which is against the principles of the sectoral committee.

“There are two data centers in Sri Lanka. One for the SLT company. The other is for the Dialog company. These have been rented for storing government data. Like someone renting a part of a safe deposit space in a bank. And who controls that safe? Is the bank concerned? No. The person who rents that safe has the key. Only the concerned officer can access such government databases. It is the international standard” he further said.
