COLOMBO, May 27, 2024 (LankaXpress.com) – Several political parties and intellectual groups have come together to form a new political movement named ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ in Colombo. Political parties represented by Dilith Jayaweera, Wimal Weerawansa, and Udaya Gammanpila together with several other political factions launched the new alliance.
The coalition includes the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP), Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, Mawbima Janatha Party (MJP), Democratic Left Front, the Communist Party, the Independent MP’s Forum, and various intellectual groups. This alliance aims to present a united front in the upcoming Presidential election.
The Sri Lankan Presidential election, scheduled to be held between September 17th and October 16th, was confirmed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe during a recent Cabinet meeting. The President announced that the Presidential election will precede other electoral processes this year, and funds for the election have already been allocated by the government.
