The new paediatric ward complex at the Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama, funded by donations from the devotees of Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Dewalaya, was officially declared open today (03).

The construction of the ward complex was carried out with the support of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) as part of their ‘Husma’ project within 10 months along with the contribution of armed force personnel.

The amount spent for the project is approximately Rs. 160 million and another Rs. 50 million has been spent on its equipment.

This fully equipped 4-storey paediatric ward complex can treat 70 inpatient children and will immensely benefit children suffering from cancer in Sri Lanka.

The opening ceremony was attended by high-ranking SLAF officials representing the Sri Lanka Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, the Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr Palitha Mahipala, Director of Apeksha Hospital Dr Aruna Jayasekara, the Basnayaka Nilame of Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya Dishan Gunasekara and other guests.
