While issuing an advisory for strong winds and rough seas, the naval and fishing communities were advised not to engage in fishing and naval activities in the sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Kankesanthurai, Mannar, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota, due to the active south-west monsoon.
The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Meteorology Department said wind speed may increase up to 60 kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanthurai.
The swell waves of 2.5 m height may increase in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota, the unit said.
