Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s (SLPP) presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa has stated that their government will implement a systematic program to strengthen the economy of the farming community.

He made these remarks while attending a public rally held in the Kalawana area.

Rajapaksa emphasized that his policies are focused on strengthening farmers, fishermen, and entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka, rather than supporting certain businessmen.

“You may remember that during the ‘Yahapalana’ governance, the prices of tea leaves and pepper had fallen. Gotabaya’s government came and once again gave a strong price for tea leaves and pepper. That is the government of Gotabaya Rajapaksa,” he said.

He highlighted that Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s government prioritized local interests, which is a principle that their governments have always followed.

Rajapaksa further stated that “the objective is not to strengthen the economy of a re-exporter, or any other businessman, or a farmer in another country. We remind you that it is to strengthen the economy of the farmers who have set foot on this earth and fight with the earth.”
