MP Dhammika Perera has announced his readiness to contest the upcoming Presidential Election, with the final decision resting with the SLPP. The election, slated to occur between September 17th and October 16th.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa recently stated that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has not yet chosen a candidate for the upcoming Presidential Election. Additionally, SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam mentioned that if President Ranil Wickremesinghe were to resign from the United National Party (UNP) and join the SLPP, the party might consider him for the Presidential candidacy.
Perera, known for his significant contributions to the business sector, brings extensive experience in international investments and a deep understanding of various economic domains. He has presented a detailed action plan focused on revitalizing Sri Lanka’s economy, drawing on his previous roles as Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Minister of Investment Promotion.
In addition to his political aspirations, Perera has made substantial contributions to education through his ‘DP Education’ initiative, launched in 2019. This initiative has benefited over 1.5 million school children and, through the DP Education IT Campus established in 2023, is providing job-oriented computer language education to over 200,000 students.
