Motorcyclist killed in shooting at Dadalla

UPDATE (8.12 p.m.): The person injured in the shooting incident at Dadalla in Galle has succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital, police confirmed.


Earlier, it was reported that a person riding a motorcycle has been injured in a shooting incident at Dadalla, Galle.

Police said that two gunmen who were on a motorcycle had opened fire at victim who was also riding a motorcycle, before fleeing the scene.

The injured individual was rushed to the Karapitiya Hospital for treatment following the shooting.

The shooting occurred on the Galle-Colombo main road near the Dadalla cemetery at around 6:50 p.m. today (20).

The injured man was immediately rushed to the Karapitiya Hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Melegoda Wanchawala Patabendige Pathum, alias ‘Lokka’, police said. 

His wife, who was traveling with him at the time of the incident, sustained injuries and has also been admitted to the hospital.

The couple was reportedly traveling from Galle to Colombo when the gunmen, armed with a T-56 firearm, carried out the attack.

The Galle Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
