Last night (June 18) , a minor tremor of magnitude 2.3 on the Richter scale was recorded 23 kilometers off the coast of Vavuniya. The Geological Survey & Mines Bureau confirmed the event, emphasizing that there were no reports of damage or injuries.
While such low-magnitude earthquakes are relatively common and typically pose minimal risk, the Bureau continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety of residents in the region.
Last year November, a tremor measured 3.4 on the Richter scale and was recorded in Morawewa area Trincomalee.
