Ministry of Public Security Urges Expedited Investigations into High-Profile Cases

The Ministry of Public Security has instructed the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) to expedite investigations into seven high-profile incidents, some of which have remained unresolved for years. The ministry’s directive includes the mysterious disappearance of Lalith Kumar and Kugan Muruganandan (December 9, 2011), the alleged kidnapping and murder of journalist D.P. Sivaram (Taraki) (April 28, 2005), and the Central Bank Bond Scam (2015).

Other critical cases identified for priority investigation are the Easter Sunday Terror Attacks (2019), the death of businessman Dinesh Schaffter, the disappearance of Eastern University Vice Chancellor Prof. S. Raveendranath, and the suspicious death of a Weligama area policeman near Hotel W15.

In addition to expediting these investigations, the ministry has called for the deployment of additional police officials to support the investigations. Furthermore, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been instructed to review and address any loopholes in the investigative processes to ensure more effective outcomes. Prioritizing these cases is a key part of the ministry’s efforts to restore public confidence in law enforcement and bring justice to the victims and their families. (LankaXpress)
