President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed Manusha Nanayakkara as his Labor and Foreign Employment Adviser, effective immediately. The appointment was made under the powers vested in the President by Article 41(1) of the Constitution.
The President officially handed over the appointment letter to Nanayakkara.
This was following the Supreme Court’s ruling on August 9th, which upheld the decision of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to suspend the party memberships of Manusha Nanayakkara and Harin Fernando. The court dismissed a petition filed by the two ministers, which sought to overturn the SJB’s decision to expel them from the party. Hours before the court’s ruling, both Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara resigned from their respective ministerial portfolios.
