Authorities have reported that the water levels in the Attanagalu Oya, Nilwala, and Kalu Ganga rivers have reached major flood levels, prompting urgent warnings and evacuation advisories for residents in affected areas. The ongoing floods have already claimed the lives of 10 people.
Rivers at Critical Levels:
Attanagalu Oya: The river reached a major flood situation early this morning at Dunamale, with water levels continuing to rise since 3 AM.
Nilwala River: The water level at Thalgahagoda has also reached a major flood level, causing significant concern for local communities.
Kalu Ganga: In Millakanda, the river has breached its banks, leading to severe flooding in the surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, the Kelani Ganga and Gin Ganga rivers are experiencing rising water levels but remain at a minor flood situation for now. Vigilance is still advised for residents along these rivers as conditions could worsen.
