Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has handed over a letter of authorization for the decision of the Department of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs to declare the year 2022 as the ‘Navalar Year’ , 200th birth anniversary of Sri La Sri Arumuga Navalar who dedicated his life for the Hindu Tamil world.
The letter of authorization was presented by the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa to A. Umamageswaran the Director of the Department of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs. His Holiness Sri La Sri Somasunthara Gnanasampantha Paramachariya Swamigal, Head of Nallai Thirugnanasampanthar Adheenam ,Srimat Swami Akhandanandaji Maharaj , Head of Ramakrishna Mission, Colombo, Rev. Ramachandira Krukkal Babu Sharma , Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Hindu Religious Affairs Member of Parliament Angajan Ramanathan , Suren Raghavan, Former Directors of the Department of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs S. Thillainadaraja and Shanthi Navukkarasan, Chairman of the Sri la sri Arumuganavalar Sabai S. Dhanabala, Secretary of the All ceylon Hindu congress V. Kandasamy, Hindu Cultural Fund Members P.Sundaralingam, G.V.Subramanian, D.Vigneswaran Jayaraj were present at this ceremony.
Two portraits of Srilasree Arumuganavalar Peruman published by the Department of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs , realistically drawn by M. Padmavasan, were unveiled by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the event.
