2021 Kandy Esala Perahera will commence from August 13 and will last till August 23 in Kandy, Sri Dalada Maligawa. This year, Kandy Esala Perahera will be held without the participation of spectators due to COVID outbreak in Sri Lanka.
About 100 elephants and about 5600 traditional artists including dancers to perform at the procession. Kandy Esala Perahera Procession consider as one of the world’s oldest religious festivals.
The ‘Kap’ planting ceremony was held early this week and the five ‘devala’ processions will be held from August 13. The first ‘Kumbal perahera’ will parade the streets on August 13 and will continue till August 17.
‘Randoli Perahera’ will parade the streets from August 18 to 22. ‘Final Randoli Perahera’ will parade the streets on August 22 6.44pm auspicious time. A day procession will be held on August 23. All processions will be held without spectators due to the COVID.
