Update – In a rescue, an Israeli national reported missing was discovered by Army Intelligence in a wilderness area near Nilaveli earlier today. The individual, identified as a 25-year-old woman, had been stuck on the side of a steep hill after slipping down, according to the Defence Ministry.
The Uppuweli Police have launched an investigation to locate a 25-year-old Israeli female tourist, Tamar Amitai, who has been missing since Wednesday (26) while visiting Sri Lanka.
Amitai arrived in Sri Lanka on June 22 and was travelling alone in the Trincomalee area when she went missing. She had booked a guesthouse online and was staying at the Rolex Guest House in Trincomalee. The guesthouse owner said that she checked in on June 22 and had not returned to the hostel since Wednesday (26).
The guesthouse owner lodged a complaint with the Uppuweli Police Station. The Officer in Charge (OIC) of Uppuweli Police said that investigations have been launched, but no information has been received so far. Amitai has left her belongings at the hostel.
