Sri Lanka Set to Launch ‘GovPay’ Digital Payment Platform on February 7

Sri Lanka is set to take a major step toward digital governance with the launch of ‘GovPay,’ a new digital payment platform designed to modernize government transactions. The initiative, spearheaded by the government, will be officially inaugurated by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on February 7, 2025.

GovPay aims to streamline payments across government institutions, providing citizens and businesses with a secure, efficient, and transparent digital platform for transactions. The system is expected to reduce bureaucratic delays, enhance accountability, and improve access to public services by eliminating the need for physical payments and paperwork.

This marks the first phase of a broader digital transformation strategy aimed at modernizing Sri Lanka’s public sector services. The government has emphasized the importance of embracing digital solutions to enhance service delivery, reduce inefficiencies, and promote financial inclusion.

Officials believe GovPay will pave the way for a more connected and digitally empowered governance system, ensuring convenience for citizens while reinforcing transparency in financial transactions.

Further details on the platform’s rollout and features are expected to be unveiled during the official launch event.
