President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to deliver the Government’s Policy Statement during the inaugural session of Sri Lanka’s 10th Parliament on November 21 at 11:30 a.m. The session, which begins at 10:00 a.m., will also witness the appointment of a new Speaker of the House.
As per Article 33(a) of the Constitution, the President is empowered to outline the government’s vision and legislative priorities at the start of a new parliamentary session. This ceremonial address, historically referred to as the “Throne Speech,” has been a tradition since 1947 when Governor Sir Henry Monck-Mason Moore delivered the first such statement.
President Dissanayake’s address is expected to highlight the administration’s key policy objectives and provide insights into the government’s legislative agenda. The speech will set the tone for the new Parliament’s work and reflect the government’s priorities in addressing national challenges.
The event marks a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s political calendar, emphasizing transparency and accountability as the government outlines its roadmap for the coming years.
