Colombo, March 6, 2024 – Former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has stirred controversy with the upcoming release of his book titled “The Conspiracy to Oust Me from the Presidency.” In the book, scheduled to be launched on March 7, Rajapaksa makes startling allegations about meticulously orchestrated plots to remove him from power.
Rajapaksa contends that his ousting in 2022 was the result of “conspiracies and mob violence sponsored by interested foreign parties and with the participation of specific sections of Sri Lankan society.” The book delves into the internationally sponsored regime change operation and the alleged manipulation of internal politics against him.
“I believe that this book is important not only for Sri Lankans but also for foreigners,” Rajapaksa emphasized, noting that the book will be available in both English and Sinhala languages at leading bookstores.
The narrative traces the events of 2022, marking a significant shift in Sri Lankan politics, which historically experienced peaceful and constitutional changes of government since gaining independence in 1948. Rajapaksa attributes increased foreign intervention post the 2009 end of the war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam as a catalyst for the alleged conspiracies, focusing on the manipulation of communal politics and the economic downturn.
The author, a retired Lieutenant Colonel who served in the Sri Lanka army and later became an IT professional in the USA, held the position of Defence Secretary in the Mahinda Rajapaksa government. He oversaw the military campaign against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and initiated successful post-war urban development. Elected in November 2019, Rajapaksa was forced to resign in July 2022.
The book promises an insider’s perspective on the tumultuous events leading to the ousting of a democratically elected president, sparking anticipation and debate in both domestic and international circles. (LankaXpress.com)
