Water Levels in rivers rising. Major Flood in Millakanda area. Warning for Kelani, Kalu, Gin Ganga and Attanagalu Oya river Basins

Water levels in Kelani, Kalu, Gin Ganga and Attanagalu Oya rivers are rising. Major flood situation reports in Kalu Ganga Millakanda area. Kelani Ganga (N- street, Hanwella), Kalu Ganga (Putupaula, Ellagawa and Magura) and Attanagalo Oya (Dunamale) report minor flood level. People living in downstream and river banks be vigilant. MET predicts more rains.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, Central and Northern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, Central and Northern provinces and in Galle district. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere during the evening or night.

Updated (June 5) – A Considerable rainfall exceeding around 100 mm has been occurred in last few hours in most of upper and middle catchment areas of Aththanagalu Oya Basin as at 12.00 midnight June 4. By analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water levels of Hydrological Stations in Aththanagalu Oya, there is a possibility of continuing and slightly increasing current considerable flood situation in lowline areas of Aththanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya valleys situated in Mirigama, Attanagalla, Mahara, Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Ja ela and Katana D/S Divisions. It is requested to pay high attention in this regard by the residents in those area and vehicle drivers running through those areas. Disaster Management Authorities are requested to take adequate precautions in this regard (Please refer the attachment 01 for further clarifications).

Flood Warning Message Kelani River Basin; A considerable rain fall exceeding around 200 mm has been occurred. Therefore, considerable flood situation (Minor Flood) in low line areas of Kelani River through Dehiovita, Ruwanwella, Seethawaka, Dompe, Homagama, Kaduwela, Biyagama, Kolonnawa and Wattala D/S Divisions might be occurred It is requested to pay high attention.

(June 4) A Considerable rainfall exceeding around 200 mm has been occurred in most of Upstream / Middle Reach / Downstream catchment areas of Kelani River Basin as of 6.0 AM June 4. By analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water levels of Hydrological Stations in Kelani River, there is a possibility of increasing current local minor flood situation existing in low line areas of Kelani River valley situated in Dehiovita, Ruwanwella, Seethawaka, Dompe, Homagama, Kaduwela, Biyagama, Kolonnawa and Wattala D/S Divisions into a considerable flood situation. It is requested to pay high attention in this regards by the residents in those area and vehicle drivers running through those areas Disaster Management Authorities are requested to take adequate precautions in this
regards (Please refer the attachment 01 for further clarifications).
