After a four-month investigation, police have arrested the suspect responsible for the February 26th murder of Public Health Inspector Roshan Kumara Withanage. The suspect, apprehended in Mount Lavinia, was found with two firearms.
Withanage, 51, was shot dead at his two-storey residence on Pathiraja Mawatha, Kurundugahahetekma in Elpitiya by two masked gunmen on a motorbike. Known for his strict law enforcement and professional dedication, Withanage had reportedly received threats in the line of duty, leading police to suspect a contract killing.
The arrest may now provide insights into the motive behind the killing, bringing some closure to the case.
