Election Commission to write to President seeking prompt solution to IGP issue

The Election Commission has decided to write to President Ranil Wickremesinghe urging for a prompt solution to the issue concerning the post of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

President Wickremesinghe had recently emphasized that the issue regarding the appointment of the IGP will be resolved within a week through consultation with the Speaker and the Chief Justice.

The President stated that he is fully committed to holding the presidential election on September 21 and will not consider postponing it beyond that date, as elections are an essential aspect of the people’s sovereignty and must never be violated.
