Do not purchase goods/services on credit basis -President orders public officers

Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in a note to Cabinet, has instructed all public officers to refrain from obtaining goods/services on credit basis, and any officer who violates this will be held personally responsible for such expenditure.

President notified Cabinet that Government revenue for January 2023 is far below the monthly expenditure estimates & the General Treasury finds it challenging to meet all current expenditures, except payments for salaries, pensions, welfare, pharmaceuticals and debt servicing & instructed to curtail Government expenditure.
