Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says that officials of the Agriculture Department are planning a food security programme in the face of a risk of food shortage.
The Prime Minster expressed these views during a discussion today with the resident representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization Wimalendran Sharan and resident representative of the UN Development Programme Maaleen Hervick.
The Prime Minister pointed out fertilizer issue and fuel shortage are the main problems faced by the local agriculture sector. He pointed out to the representatives, if speedy steps are taken, the situation can be controlled within five to six months.
